Reconstructed vessels catalog

This rim from a particularly large flat bottom dish has been rather heavily eroded, obscuring much of the decoration. The lip may have been decorated but is now so eroded that this cannot be ascertained. On the exterior, there is a trace of motif A1 below the rim; below this the area is eroded. One then picks up main motif PK13, a variant of the “windmill” design family. This is bounded below by zone marker RZ4D-4R-2. Along the base of the rim is motif FOH125, consisting of alternating triangular cutouts with intervening stamped lines.

This large jar with everted rim was probably carinated (vessel type IIB), based on comparison with similarly decorated, more complete vessels. The jar is well fired but rather coarsely finished, with little attention for example to making the lip uniform. The inner edge of the lip is decorated in motif PK459, a series of alternating slanted incised lines. On the exterior only a small portion remains of an incised motif (TFG1334) integrating both linear and curvilinear incised lines.

This is the carinated body portion of a large, well-fired carinated jar. The decoration, done with quite crude incising, consists of sets of slanting lines below a horizontal line. Recorded as motif TFG1851, this could be seen as a variant of several other very similar motifs including PK180, PK235, PK267, or PK394.

This is the body section of a thick-walled cylinder stand, with two horizontal raised ridges. At the top, the decoration begins with a row of stamped lozenges (motif GS534), below which is a variant of the “twin long-beaked bird” motif (PK194), with cutout triangles helping to define the design. Below this is the first raised ridge, defined top and bottom by zone markers RZ4D-2-1 and with motif M77-1-2 on the ridge itself. Below an intervening void space 1.4 cm wide, there is a second raised ridge with the same patterns. We this we have only a fragment (TFG1335) of a complex, curvilinear motif.

This sherd appears to come from an unrestricted bowl, although the possibility that it was from a flat bottom dish cannot entirely be ruled out. The interior is not decorated, while the lip has a row of stamped circles (motif A417) along the inner edge, and a row of triangular cutouts along the outer edge. On the exterior the decoration (which is rather eroded and difficult to discern) begins with zone marker RZ4D-3R-2, followed by motif PK529, a variant of the zigzag design.

This large unrestricted bowl has an undecorated interior, while the flat lip has dentate stamped lines in motif M77-1-2. On the exterior, the decoration begins immediately below the lip with motif GS625, parallel sets of slanting stamped lines, followed by zone marker RZ4D-5R-1. This is followed by motif GS216, stamped lozenges, then by zone marker RZ4D-4R-2. The final motif is FOH75, closely spaced stamped triangles pointing downwards.

This is the everted rim and partial neck of a large, well-fired globular jar, with decoration limited to simple notching of the inner and outer edges of the lip (motif PK414).

This fairly thin-walled unrestricted bowl is not as well made as others in this category, with a somewhat rough and unfinished interior surface. The flat lip is decorated with zone marker RZ4D-5-2. On the exterior the decoration begins with zone marker RZ4D-5R-1, followed by the main motif PK167, a variant of the zigzag design with stamped diamonds at the base. Although the dentate stamping is fairly fine, the execution does not exhibit the precision typical of fine dentate stamped vessels.

This is the rim of a large, very well made unrestricted bowl that may have originally been supported on a pedestal base. The interior is undecorated, while the lip has an inner row of stamped circles (A417), and an outer lip motif of carved holes and notches alternating with dentate stamped lines, filled in with lime. On the exterior, the decoration begins with M1-1, followed by zone marker RZ4D-5R-2, below which is motif PK294, a highly stylized anthropomorphic design consisting of almond-shaped eyes alternating between stylized noses. The dentate stamping exhibits a high degree of technical skill.

This rather badly damaged sherd comes from an unusually thick-walled, large unrestricted bowl. Only a trace of the flat lip remains, and it is not certain whether this was decorated or not. On the exterior, the uppermost visible motif is PK344, involving several sets of slanted stamped lines. Below this is zone marker RZ4D-6R-2, and below that the motif is A329, a row of repeating stamped ovals quite likely symbolizing eyes. Below this is another zone marker, RZ4D-5-2, and finally just a trace of what was probably the main motif (recorded as motif JP-H5 but doubtless incomplete).
