This is the upper body, neck, and rim of a well-made, large jar,with a pronounced rim that juts out at a right angle 2.7 cm from the top of the neck. the jar was most likely carinated. The upper surface of the flat rim is decorated along the inner edge with zone marker RZ4D-3-2, and along the outer edge with motif PK296, slanting sets of dentate lines. The lip and underside of the flaring rim are undecorated. On the exterior, the complex and beautifully executed decoration is framed in panels defined by zone marking. The most complete main motif, PK205, consists of a highly elaborated triangular panel, defined by two concentric envelopes of stamped lozenges separated by a row of stamped circles. Within this, the core triangular space contains two stamped ovals that are almost certainly eyes, indicating that the motif represents a face design. In a separate panel that is only represented by fragments, the motif (TFG1608) is a variant of the “labyrinth” design (as seen, for example, on vessel ECA-V-037). This vessel was certainly the work of a highly skilled potter, and displays a great deal of precision in the execution of the motifs.
